Cloud Computing Criteria

Cloud Computing Criteria as has been little described in the previous article, that not all web-based applications can be put into the category of cloud computing. NIST set at least five criteria must be met for a system to be entered in the family cloud computing, namely:
1. Supermarkets (On Demand Self Service)
A customer may be possible to directly reserve the needed resources, such as processor time and storage capacity through an electronic control panel provided. So no need to interact with the customer service personnel if necessary increase or decrease computing resources as needed.

2. Access Broadband
Services available connected via broadband networks, especially for adequately accessible through the Internet, either using a thin client, thick client or other media such as smartphones.

3. Resource clustered (Resource pooling)
Cloud service providers, delivering services through resources that are grouped in one or multiple locations date center that consists of a number of servers with multi-tenant mechanisms. Multi-tenant mechanism allows a number of computing resources are used jointly by a number of users, where these resources either in the form of physical or virtual, can be allocated dynamically to the needs of the user / customer demand.
Thus, customers do not need to know how and where the demand for computing resources met by the service provider. Importantly, every request can be met. Computing resources include storage, memory, processor, network and virtual machine tape.

4. Elastic (Rapid elasticity)
Computing capacity that is provided can be elastically and quickly provided, be it in the form of the addition or reduction of the required capacity. For customers themselves, with this ability as if the available capacity infinite magnitude, and can be purchased at any time with the number only.

5. Measured Service
Cloud resources available should be regulated and optimized use, with a measurement system that can measure the use of all computing resources to use (storage, memory, processor, bandwidth, user activity, and others). Thus, the amount of resources used can be transparently measured which will be the basis for the user to pay for the cost of using the service.

Besides the characteristics of Cloud Computing is very quickly deployed, instant for implementation. In this case :
  • This technology start-up costs (Cloud Computing) may be very low or non-existent, and there is no capital investment.
  • Cost of service and usage will be based on commitments that are not fixed.
  • This service (Cloud Computing) can easily upgrade or downgrade quickly without any "penalty".
  • Services will be using a multi-tenant (many customers on one platform)
  • The ability to customize the service will be limited.
